Benfica still hold out hope that Tomás Araújo could be fit for the derby at Alvalade against Sporting on 19 April after a muscle injury.

Record writes that his recovery is progressing as expected, bolstering belief the No 44 could be available to José Mourinho as Benfica chase second in Liga Portugal Betclic. He began a 10-day treatment plan after suffering the issue on the eve of the Casa Pia match.

Mourinho has acknowledged that featuring in the derby would be complicated, while also leaving open the possibility of involving the 23-year-old.

That 10-day period has not yet elapsed. If there are no setbacks, the chance of his involvement on 19 April is growing.

This season the defender, valued at €28 million, has made 36 appearances for Benfica, including 20 in Liga Portugal Betclic, nine in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Liga Portugal Meu Super. Across 2,538 minutes he has registered one goal and one assist.
