Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the return of Tony Mowbray as head coach, with the 62-year-old taking charge for a second spell at Ewood Park.
Mowbray previously spent more than five years in charge between 2017 and 2022, where he guided the club back to the Championship and helped re-establish them as a solid second-tier side. He is widely remembered for his attacking style of football and his work in developing young players during that period.
He replaces Michael O´Neill, who stepped in on an interim basis last season but chose not to take the job permanently after Blackburn’s turbulent 2025/26 campaign, which saw them finish just above the relegation zone.
Since leaving Rovers in 2022, Mowbray has had spells with Sunderland, Birmingham City and West Brom, adding further experience to his long managerial career.
His return is being seen as a move for stability and familiarity, with the club hoping he can quickly settle things down and push them back up the Championship table.
