Celtic and Scotland full back Anthony Ralston has become something of a poster boy for mediocrity in the eyes of rival supporters, and sadly some of our own supporters too.
Anthony who at the weekend won his 25th cap for Scotland, is regularly lambasted and poked fun at by a large majority of supporters, with the biggest percentage of those guilty of degrading Ralston being those who follow the latest club playing out of Ibrox.
That, I suppose, is part and parcel of football, especially when it comes to footballers who play for your biggest rivals, it can be construed as banter and that fin so long as it doesn’t overstep the mark.

Anthony Ralston, for all his faults is still a Celtic player, and we should defend him at all costs, not join in the ridiculing of one of our own. Ronny Deila gave him his debut, Brendan Rodgers gave him starts in both his spells as manager. He played under Neil Lennon and Ange Postecoglou too and even Wilfried Nancy had him in his teams. So too has Steve Clarke the Scotland manager.
For all those who are having a laugh at Tony’s expense, in particular the blue nosed half of Glasgow, here’s a little facts that they should consider before reloading more ammunition to hit the Celtic right-back with more ridiculing.

Since making his senior debut in 2016, Raldo has made a grand total of 138 appearances for Celtic scoring nine goals, and winning a whopping 14 honours in that period, despite never being something of a first team regular.
Contrast that to his rival right back across the city, James Tavernier who joined the Rangers a year before Ralston made his senior debut, and it’s night and day. The Rangers skipper James Tavernier has in that time collected just three major trophies, yes just three, and what’s more, he’s regarded as an Ibrox legend which is illustrated in his hall of fame status.

Anthony Ralston may be a player who’s punching above his weight at club and international level, but his grit and determination have earned him an impressive haul of trophies, contrast that record to Ibrox hall of famer ‘Tav’, the ‘Mr Disappointed’ of Scottish football.
