Barcelona are gearing up for an important summer ahead, with the club particularly keen on shoring up their ranks in the defensive unit.

Alessandro Bastoni, to that end, has emerged as the undisputed top target for the Catalans, as he ideally fits the profile the club are looking for.

However, Barça are likely to find difficulties finding an agreement with Inter Milan, who are steadfast in their €70 million asking price for the defender.

The player, for his part, though, has left no stone unturned in his bid to join Barcelona.

Bastoni ready to settle for same salary as Inter

So much so that Bastoni is ready to join Barcelona on the same salary as he currently draws at Inter Milan, reports Tuttosport.

According to the report, the Italian international has already made his desire to join Barcelona clear to those close to him, and Inter are also fully aware of his wishes.

His decision is driven primarily by sporting ambition and the prestige of the Catalan club, who are expected to enter next season with the stated objective of competing for every available trophy.

The move is not about money. Bastoni is not seeking an improved salary, with reports suggesting Barcelona would offer him around €7 million plus bonuses, matching what he currently earns in Milan.

The fact that he would choose Barcelona over a renewal at Inter for the same financial package speaks volumes about the strength of his desire to make the switch.

It is worth noting, however, that Bastoni has no intention of forcing the issue. He remains happy at Inter, proud of his years at the club and fully committed for as long as he wears their colours. If a move does not materialise, he will not be unsettled.
