Aston Villa‘s vision hugely impressed a top starlet they were keen to sign this summer, despite the Villa Park outfit now being set to miss out on him.

Villa deal-maker Monchi has swung into action this summer as he bids to deliver for boss Unai Emery, but the Spaniard’s work started months before.

Loan stars Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi are slated to leave, but Aston Villa were hopeful of landing top young Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan.

In April, it appeared that a deal with Rosenborg to sign Nypan was done and dusted, with the midfielder sold on the switch.

The teenager’s form dipped over the course of the next month and one former Norwegian star admitted that Nypan has not been looking like an £11m man, with other talents of his age performing better.

The Rosenborg man though is not going to Aston Villa now, with Manchester City having stolen in and a switch to the Etihad expected.

That was not though for want of trying on Villa’s part and, according to journalist Dean Jones, Nypan ‘was very impressed by their vision’.

However, ultimately the ‘power’ of Manchester City won out as Nypan was convinced about the pathway on offer at the Etihad.

The midfielder has turned out nine times in the Norwegian top flight for Rosenborg this season, scoring once, against Fredrikstad.

Nypan has missed the last two Norwegian top flight matches.

At international level, the teenager has yet to win his first senior Norway cap, but has turned out for the country’s Under-21s side.

All eyes will be on how his development continues when he is on the books at Manchester City.
