Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters is available for a free transfer in the summer, when his Southampton contract expires.
Tottenham have seen many incredible players come through their academy. To name only a few, Harry Kane, Ledley King and Danny Rose all "rose" through the academy, if you pardon the pun there.
However, it hasn't always been a case of Tottenham youngsters breaking through the academy making it at Tottenham. Indeed, there have been a handful of former academy players who made their careers elsewhere.
One of those players is Kyle Walker-Peters. Leaving Tottenham in 2020, Kyle Walker-Peters has gone from strength to strength at Southampton. Well, that's an understatment considering he has consistently been one of their best players since his initial loan move.
And now, Southampton are braced for transfer bids for Kyle Walker-Peters this month. Southampton's stance on selling the player is yet to be revealed but it can be said with certainty that this is their final chance to cash-in on the seemingly departing Kyle Walker-Peters.
For Southampton, there are two options - They can sell him for a reduced fee this month or lose him for free in the summer. The reason for this is because he's extremely unlikely to pen a new deal, particularly with the Saints being a dead-cert for relegation this season.
Tottenham have been linked with a move in the past. It remains to be seen whether Spurs would like to return Kyle Walker-Peters to his boyhood club but given the injuries in defence, it would certainly make sense.
The main pull factor of signing Kyle Walker-Peters, other than the fact that he'll either be insanely cheap or free, is that he is versatile. He has experience of playing on either side of the defence and in the back-three.
Versatility is clearly something that Ange Postecoglou values in his players. He likes those players who he feels safe playing anywhere and it would serve Spurs well in their current injury crisis.
The only condition would be to understand Kyle Walker-Peters' stance on returning to Tottenham. It is probably likely that he's accepted leaving Southampton - It's better for him to do so anyway - However, whether he would like to return to Spurs is a different story.
That's if Spurs even remain interested, of course. Not much has been said in this transfer window, but there's certainly past history of Spurs being interested in re-signing Kyle Walker-Peters. If that still exists, there's never been a better time to do it.
