Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin has vowed to ‘come back stronger’ after undergoing surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The 23-year-old centre-back was in a positive mood after going under the knife despite being ruled out for the rest of the season.
Dragusin strained his ACL in the latter stages of Tottenham’s 3-0 Europa League win over Elfsborg late last month.
“This morning, I successfully got through the surgery, which went perfectly,” he wrote. “I am grateful to the entire medical team for their care and professionalism.
“At the same time, I am thankful for all the messages of encouragement and your continuous support. It’s wonderful to feel this kind of support.
“I will do everything I can to ensure a smooth recovery and come back stronger as soon as possible.”
Medical staff have advised that his recovery could take up to eight months, but Dragusin is hoping to return to the fold by August.
The Romanian defender joined Tottenham from Genoa in January 2024 and initially played a back-up role behind Ange Postecoglou’s first-choice pairing of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
However, injuries to both centre-backs gave Dragusin the opportunity to cement himself as a regular in Postecoglou’s line-up, making 28 appearances across all competitions before his setback.
The Austrian international partnered with 18-year-old Archie Gray – who has been filling in at centre-back – in Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa.
Tottenham’s injury crisis has been a major talking point throughout the season, with the north Londoners taking on Villa without 11 first-team players.
