Tottenham avoided a late collapse against Manchester United in a seven-goal thriller to book their League Cup semi-final ticket.
Scorers: Solanke 15', 54', Kulusevski 46', Son 87' ; Zirkzee 63', Diallo 70', Evans 90+4'
Spurs showed their rampant side in the opening 45 minutes, pouring the pressure on their visitors until the dam eventually broke.
It took just 15 minutes for Dominic Solanke to beat the entire Manchester United defence to a rebounded shot to fire home the opener.
The second-half began just as the first, but this time Dejan Kulusevski put the ball in the back of the net before most of the fans had even returned to their seats. But it got even better for the home faithful when Solanke bagged his second just eight minutes later, seemingly killing Manchester United off.
But Rubén Amorim's men found life past the hour mark when Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo both pounced on Fraser Forster lapses in concentration, reigniting the tie.
While United pushed to pull level and stun the home crowd, they were bailed out by poor goalkeeping at the other when back-up Red Devil shot-stopper Altay Bayındır somehow allowed Son Heung-min to score direct from a corner kick and kill off the tie — or so we thought.
Deep into stoppage-time, Johnny Evans headed home from a corner to pull United back to within one with just minutes remaining, making the home crowd sweat once again. However, it was merely consolation in the end.
What. A. Match. 🤯 Spurs book their place in the #EFLCup semi-finals! Time for a lie down 😅 #TOTMUN–
