Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Serhou Guirassy, according to Bild. Spurs plan for the Guinean striker to be part of their rebuild next season.

Per the report, Tottenham have watched him live over the last five matches and have contacted his representatives.

Ideally, the Borussia Dortmund striker would like to go to the Middle East, but the ongoing war will likely force a rethink, opening the door for Spurs to enter the picture.

Tottenham need a new centre-forward with Dominic Solanke struggling to live up to his £65 million billing. His constant injury setbacks have been frustrating.

Spurs subsequently signed Randal Kolo Muani on loan to provide competition for Solanke up top.

While he has been servicable, the Frenchman has not done enough to convince the Tottenham hierarchy to sign him permanently.

A swoop for Guirassy by the North London side is unsurprising.

He is a lethal striker. He has delivered 17 goals and six assists in 38 appearances this season despite struggling for form.

Last term, he recorded 38 goals and nine assists in 50 appearances, finishing as the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League.

Tottenham’s interest in Guirassy will provide the German club with the funds they need to plug the financial hole after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League early.

However, the ship to sign Guirassy should have sailed for Tottenham. The time to buy him was when he left Stuttgart for BVB. He had a €17 million release clause then.

He is now 30 and entering the twilight of his late-bloomer career. Picking him up at this age, given his massive wages, might be a huge mistake.

Spurs are better served pushing for a young, hungry striker who can fire the team back into the upper echelons of the Premier League standings.

Argentine hitman Joaquin Panichelli has been turning heads in France and should be atop Tottenham’s transfer wishlist.
