Spurs in talks with Liverpool to sign experienced defender
Tottenham may have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Andy Robertson with Liverpool earmarking a replacement.
Robertson has emerged as somewhat of a surprise target for Spurs who are in talks to make the experienced left-back their third signing of the January transfer window.
Spurs have already bolstered their squad with the additions of Conor Gallagher and Souza, and Standard Sport understands that talks with Liverpool are advancing over a deal for Robertson.
The Scotland international is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is keen to play more minutes ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
Robertson has started just four Premier League games this season after falling behind Milos Kerkez in the pecking order following the Hungary international’s £40million move from Bournemouth last summer.
Spurs were among the clubs tipped to sign Robertson on a free transfer this summer, but they have decided to accelerate their interest after Ben Davies suffered a fractured ankle against West Ham last weekend.
It has been widely reported that for Liverpool to sanction the sale of the 31-year-old, a replacement would have to be identified in order to avoid leaving Arne Slot short of options at left-back for the remainder of the season.
This may soon become a reality as Spurs can now accelerate plans to sign Robertson with the Reds reportedly being given the ‘green light’ to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma.

The Greece international moved to Italy on transfer Deadline Day last summer but has struggled for regular game time and recently admitted he was missing his parent club.
“I miss the city. I lived there for five years. I love everything in Liverpool. They have a special part of my heart,” he told the Athletic.
“The people are very kind, some of the kindest I’ve ever met in football. They’d always try to support the team, in good, in bad, they would always do their best to try to help you.
“I want everything for this club, because from day one, I was fully committed there. I was the Greek Scouser and I always will be, I’ll keep it for my whole life.”
