Thomas Frank has delivered a welcome dose of optimism as Tottenham Hotspur prepare for Sunday’s blockbuster derby clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Dane is looking to become the first Tottenham boss to beat Arsenal at the Emirates since Harry Redknapp 13 years ago.
He has now been handed the tools to make it happen after confirming that five players have returned from injury in time to face Arsenal.
Frank has confirmed that Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Mohammed Kudus, Randal Kolo Muani, and Pape Matar Sarr have all returned to training and are available for selection.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference earlier today, Frank said: “Pape trained today, he’s ready, available. Lucas trained today – ready, available.
“Kolo Muani, yes, trained today, available. Of course, he will have a mask that he will need to play with.”
He also confirmed that Gray and Kudus trained earlier today and are available for selection before joking about needing to ‘make difficult decisions’.
Spurs have struggled with injuries since the start of the season, and there are still notable absentees including Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
Kolo Muani’s situation was arguably the most concerning case after suffering a jaw injury in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United.
The injury kept him out of France’s World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan, but he is now back in contention even though he’d need a mask to protect his jaw.
Sarr was forced off after 49 minutes of Senegal’s friendly against Brazil, while Kudus and Bergvall have missed Tottenham’s last two games with a knock and concussion, respectively.
Gray has also missed Tottenham’s last four games with a calf injury but is now pushing for a place in the team to face Arsenal on Sunday.
