Tottenham Hotspur FC are pursuing a move to sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes (24) on a free transfer, according to The Telegraph. The outlet understands that the struggling North London club intends to back under-pressure head coach Ange Postecoglou with January signings. Tottenham are also looking ahead to the summer should they fail to land their January targets. England international midfielder Gomes is reportedly a player of interest to Spurs, notably as he’s out of contract next June and he’s now free to hold talks with foreign clubs.
Gomes, a Manchester United Academy graduate, is reportedly monitored by Tottenham. Spurs also held talks with him over a summer move. The 24-year-old made his injury return this Saturday as Lille OSC suffered a second defeat on the bounce against Ligue 1 rivals Strasbourg. Gomes addressed his future recently, saying that he was aware of clubs enquiring about his situation. “I’m now completely focused on Lille. I want to finish the season in the best way possible and then we will see what happens, I’m focused on the present and not on negotiations.“
