In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas. It has been stated that Spurs would have to rival Aston Villa in the race to land the Swiss wide player next year.

Vargas’ Impressive Rise In Spanish Football

Vargas has made a great start to this La Liga campaign after putting in a few influential displays on the left side of Sevilla’s attack. The 27-year-old has picked up three assists in three appearances for the Andalusian outfit this season across all fronts.

The Swiss talent has caught the eye at times in the final third as he is averaging 1.71 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has kept 25% of his attempts on target. However, Vargas needs to improve his ball distribution after completing 67.2% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for Spurs to get a deal done for him on the cheap next year.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Move In For Vargas?

Vargas is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with it on the left flank. He has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and can strike the ball with venom from long range.

The Swiss talent has done well to add a few assists to his game this season. However, he needs to score more goals from the wide areas. Vargas is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a right-winger or play in the number ten position if needed. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.

We can expect Vargas to enhance the quality of Tottenham boss Thomas Frank’s attack. He is good enough to compete with Xavi Simons for a regular starting spot at the North London club in the coming years.

At 27, Vargas is entering his prime, which makes him a decent choice for Tottenham to pursue next year. Thus, Frank should focus on moving in for him this January or at the end of this campaign.
