Tottenham Hotspur Confirm Players Missing Tour | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed which players will remain in north London ahead of the club’s pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The Lilywhites got their pre-season campaign under way earlier this week with a behind-closed-doors friendly against MK Dons, edging out a 1-0 victory.

The only goal of the contest came from summer signing Mateus Fernandes, who arrived from West Ham United despite attracting interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid earlier in the transfer window.

Tottenham now turn their attention to a three-match tour of Australia and New Zealand, with their first fixture taking place this Sunday.

Spurs begin their tour against A-League champions Auckland FC before travelling to Sydney for back-to-back fixtures, starting with Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium on 29th July.

It will be Tottenham’s first meeting with the Sky Blues since 2015, when a solitary Harry Kane strike secured a narrow 1-0 victory for the north London club.

Their final overseas outing of pre-season sees them take on Chelsea in a London derby at Accor Stadium on 1st August.

Roberto De Zerbi has selected a 35-man squad for the trip, although several notable names will not be making the journey.

Mohamed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert will remain at Hotspur Way to continue their rehabilitation programmes, while Guglielmo Vicario, who has recently been linked with a return to Italy, has also been left behind.

The 29-year-old is nursing a minor knock and will stay in north London to complete his recovery ahead of the new campaign.

They are joined by midfield duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr, who have been granted extended leave following their involvement at the World Cup in North America.

Pedro Porro, fresh from lifting the World Cup with Spain last week, will also miss the tour, as will Marcos Senesi, Cristian Romero and Djed Spence after all three reached the latter stages of the tournament.

The MK Dons friendly gave De Zerbi an early look at new arrivals Martin Dubravka and Sandro Tonali, with the upcoming tour offering another opportunity to fine-tune his squad ahead of the Premier League opener against Brentford on 22nd August.
