Tottenham Hotspur Injury Update: Heung-Min Son and Rodrigo Bentancur Boost Ahead of Bodo/Glimt Clash

As Tottenham Hotspur prepare for a critical stretch of their season, manager Ange Postecoglou is keeping a close eye on the fitness of two of his key men, Heung-Min Son and Rodrigo Bentancur. With a Europa League semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt looming, the stakes could hardly be higher.

Son’s Fitness Race Continues

Heung-Min Son remains Tottenham Hotspur’s major injury doubt ahead of Thursday night. The captain has missed Spurs’ last three matches with a troublesome foot injury. However, there is renewed hope following his return to training, although it remains uncertain whether he will be fit enough to feature.

Speaking last week, Postecoglou offered a cautious update:

“We’ll see. Like I said, he’s improving, it’s the first time he’s kind of got out on the grass [on Friday], and he said he felt it’s definitely better than what it was. So it’s kind of a day-by-day decision.”

Following the defeat at Liverpool, Postecoglou reiterated the tentative nature of Son’s recovery:

“It’ll be touch and go for Thursday. He’ll try hard. If [he’s not ready] for the first game we think he’ll be ready for the second game.”

Son’s leadership and sharp attacking instincts have been sorely missed, and with Tottenham Hotspur chasing silverware, his potential return could not be better timed.

Potential return date: Bodo/Glimt (h), Thursday, 1 May 2025

Bentancur Expected to Feature

Rodrigo Bentancur was a surprise absentee during Tottenham’s 4-2 loss at Anfield, prompting initial concerns. However, Spurs fans can breathe a little easier after Postecoglou clarified the midfielder’s situation.

In his pre-match interview with Sky Sports, Postecoglou explained:

“He’s fine, a bit like Destiny last week. He’s played a lot recently and we felt like he would benefit from a weekend off, similar to Destiny last week.”

It appears that Bentancur’s absence was purely precautionary, part of a calculated strategy to keep his key players fresh for Thursday’s European tie. Given Bentancur’s importance to Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield, his expected return offers a significant boost.

Dragusin’s Season Over

Meanwhile, it’s less positive news for Radu Dragusin. The centre-back, signed with high expectations, has been sidelined since February after suffering a serious ACL injury. Tottenham Hotspur quickly confirmed that Dragusin underwent surgery, stating:

“Radu underwent surgery today following his ACL injury. That procedure has now been completed, and the centre-back will now commence with his recovery before beginning the rehab process.”

Given the nature of the injury, Dragusin will not feature again this season and is not expected to return to action before June at the earliest. His absence leaves Postecoglou short of options at the back at a crucial time.

Potential return date: June 2025

Tottenham Hotspur’s Season in the Balance

With Heung-Min Son and Rodrigo Bentancur nearing returns, there is renewed optimism around Tottenham Hotspur’s prospects. Postecoglou’s side has shown resilience in the face of adversity throughout the campaign, but having two of their most influential players back could be the difference between success and disappointment.

The Europa League semi-final offers a genuine opportunity to cap the season with silverware, and Tottenham’s fortunes may well hinge on Son’s and Bentancur’s availability. As Spurs fans hold their breath, all eyes will be on the team sheet come Thursday night.
