Follow live coverage as Tottenham Hotspur face Manchester United today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Liverpool look to fend off competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and more.
The race for the Champions League places should also be a compelling battle, with a fifth place possible for English teams. Manchester United’s latest rebuild under Ruben Amorim sets expectations high once more after a dismal season last time out.
Meanwhile, it’s Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:
North London eventually serves up a Premier League classic as Tottenham and Manchester United draw 2-2 with late drama the order of the day. Mbeumo's fine, headed opener from an Amad cross gave the visitors the lead in a widely passive first half. Spurs then steadily threatened, finding a Johnson goal disallowed for offside just after the hour mark. While Lammens had stood up to tests from both Romero and Palhinha valiantly, there was nothing he could do as Spurs managed to click into gear in the last 10 minutes. First, substitute Tel equalised in the 84th minute, spinning off an Udogie ball and firing a deflected effort home off De Ligt. Just two minutes later, the momentum seemed firmly with those in white, as Sesko was denied what could've been a winner with Van de Ven's last-ditch tackle inspiring the hosts. Such was the nature of the challenge, Sesko was actually forced to withdraw, and it looked like Spurs had the advantage over their 10-man visitors. Richarlison headed on an Odobert shot to make it 2-1 in the 91st minute, but the drama wasn't over in stoppage time, as De Ligt nodded in a Fernandes corner from the left in the 96th minute. Now, after over-performing their 0.96 and 0.63 xGs respectively, these sides continue to be locked together on points. Thanks for joining us today. Goodbye!
