Tottenham Hotspur have launched a last-gasp attempt to retain their Premier League status, with the club now on the market for a psychologist.
According to The Telegraph, the North Londoners want someone with plenty of experience to help “heal the minds of their mentally drained players” as their relegation scuffle continues.
Tottenham are facing a real prospect of relegation just one year after winning the Europa League title, and the club’s situation appears to be taking an emotional toll on the players.
Spurs are looking for a psychologist to help rebuild confidence and mental strength within the squad, especially after their painful 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side came close to clinching their first Premier League victory in 2026 when Brighton visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend.
Pedro Porro’s opener was cancelled out by Kaoru Mitoma on the stroke of half-time.
Summer signing Xavi Simons thought he had finally helped to end Tottenham’s 14-game winning drought with a sensational strike in the 77th minute.
However, a last-minute equaliser from Georginio Rutter snatched a crucial victory away from Tottenham’s grasp, leaving them still rotting in the relegation zone.
The reaction at full-time said everything. Players dropped to the ground in frustration, and Simons, who had given Spurs hope with his goal, looked close to tears as the moment slipped away.
De Zerbi has already recognised that belief is fragile within the group.
The dressing room is devoid of confidence, and the Italian coach has emphasised the need to work on the players’ minds as they continue to chase their first win of the year.
De Zerbi has warned his players not to feel sorry for themselves as they prepare for a must-win clash with already relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium.
However, the club understands that fixing this problem requires more than strong words in the dressing room and have started the process of hiring a performance psychologist.
