Lucas Bergvall praised the start Tottenham have made under Thomas Frank after a routine win over Burnley on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Frank was appointed as the new Spurs boss at the start of the summer following Ange Postecoglou’s departure and there have been encouraging signs in the early weeks of his reign.

Spurs beat Arsenal in Hong Kong and were minutes away from beating Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup before they conceded twice late on and lost on penalties.

Frank’s side bounced back from that by beating Burnley 3-0 on Saturday, as Richarlison scored a brace and Brennan Johnson put the match to bed midway through the second half.

Bergvall started that match, and the 19-year-old believes there are already plenty of promising signs under the new manager.

“It's been really good, you saw the final against PSG, we lost but it was a really good game from us so it's been a really good start to the season,” Bergvall said.

Asked how playing under Frank compared to Postecoglou, the Swede responded: “It's difficult to compare, I don't want to compare manager to manager but I feel like we've had a really good start, working hard every day and trying to get the team together.

“It's been really good.”

Bergvall started in the No10 role against Burnley as Frank looks for solutions in the absence of the injured James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

He almost scored inside the opening 30 seconds, forcing Martin Dubravka into a smart save, and Bergvall also had a number of dangerous driving runs from deep.

“It was difficult to find space against a back-five but I feel like sometimes when I come a bit deeper and drive with the ball up the pitch it's good,” Bergvall said.

On whether he prefers a deeper role to the No10 position, Bergvall added: “I don't know it's up to the gaffer, I can play both, wherever he wants.

Bergvall made 45 appearances in all competitions last season for Spurs in what was a mixed campaign. Although the club won the Europa League, a 17th-place finish in the Premier League ultimately led to the club parting ways with Postecoglou.

Frank has spoken of his desire for Spurs to compete on multiple fronts this season and that is a sentiment shared by Bergvall.

“We take every game at a time, we want Champions League of course, we want to win everything,” Bergvall said.

“Every week is a new game so we take it one at a time.”
