Spurs were far from vintage in New Year's Day derby

Kevin Schade’s disallowed goal was the main talking point of an otherwise attritional first half, and there was little improvement from either team after the break, with just four shots on target from both sides.

Sam Tabuteau was at the Gtech Community Stadium to rate the Spurs players...

Guglielmo Vicario 6

Some questionable clearances, but made a good stop to deny Janelt. Picked up a yellow for taking too long to clear from a goal kick.

Djed Spence 6

Struggled to link the play in attack, but held his concentration in defence as Spurs at least took a clean sheet back to north London with them.

Micky van de Ven 6

Aggressive without being overzealous, he made some important covering challenges.

Made an excellent recovery to deny Brentford towards the end of the first half. A determined performance from the Argentinian, who chased every loose ball.

Cristian Romero 5

Some shaky moments defensively, and was lucky to get away with a misjudged challenge on Igor Thiago. Made the most fouls of any player on the pitch.

Rodrigo Bentancur 6

Failed to have any real impact in possession, but got through plenty of defensive work - no player completed more defensive contributions than the Uruguayan.

Joao Palhinha 6

Dominant in his defensive work before picking up a yellow card for a poor challenge on Yehor Yarmoliuk.

Archie Gray 4

Frank criticised Gray’s work in possession against Palace, and he did not fare much better here. A tough evening for the teenager.

Mohammed Kudus 5

Sent a half volley whistling over the bar at the start of the second half. A wild effort that pretty much summed up his game. Erratic and lacking any serious intent.

Richarlison 5

Starved of service, he took just six touches in the opposition box. Could have done better with a late effort when found free in the area.

His audition for the left-wing spot did not go to plan. Frank likes the 21-year-old, but he struggled to get anything going and was taken off midway through the second half, having completed just one dribble.

Substitutes:

Kolo Muani 5

An ineffectual performance. He failed to turn the tide for Tottenham, completing just two passes in a little over 25 minutes.

Mathys Tel 5

Tel’s introduction was never going to spark this contest into life. Took just three touches despite being introduced with 10 minutes to play.
