FC Bayern is facing its next transfer challenge in the case of João Palhinha. According to recent reports, Tottenham Hotspur will not exercise the purchase option for the Portuguese player.

João Palhinha is expected to return to FC Bayern for the time being. As reported by the British newspaper The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur has decided against signing the midfielder on a permanent basis.

Consequently, the London club will neither exercise the agreed-upon buyout option of 30 million euros nor enter into renegotiations with the German record champions.

Sky also reports that a permanent move to Tottenham has been definitively ruled out.

Tottenham is focusing on other midfielders

The decision stems from the Spurs’ recent investments in central midfield. With Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, Tottenham has signed two high-profile new players, spending a combined total of more than 200 million euros.

As a result, there is apparently no longer a need for a permanent transfer of Palhinha.

The 30-year-old played for Tottenham on loan last season, appearing in a total of 45 competitive matches and scoring seven goals.

Bayern continues to look for a buyer

Palhinha still has a contract with FC Bayern through 2028. However, the Portuguese player no longer features in Munich’s sporting plans. The club’s management, led by Max Eberl, is therefore continuing to work on a permanent solution. Most recently, Sporting Lisbon, among others, has been mentioned as a potential suitor.

The problem: Sporting is not financially capable of handling a transfer. According to reports, Bayern is demanding a transfer fee of between 20 and 30 million euros for the midfielder. Added to that is a salary of up to ten million euros.

This increases the pressure on FC Bayern to find another buyer for the midfielder.
