Spurs boss back at the club where he made his name
Thomas Frank says it would be wrong of him not to get sentimental ahead of an emotional return to Brentford on New Year’s Day.
Tottenham travel to the Gtech Community Stadium for what will be Frank’s first visit back to the club where he made his name.
It promises to be a night of split emotions for Frank as Spurs looks to build on their 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
“That one cannot be business as usual,” said Frank. “That is special. I don't think I have thought that much about a game when it's coming back to me. I'm actually happy that I have those emotions, because that means it meant something to me.

“The nine years I spent at Brentford, almost seven as a head coach. Brentford Football Club, the fans and especially the people I work closely with, they have a special place in my heart. That's the longest time I've ever been in a club, and we achieved incredible things together.”
Frank is under scrutiny at Spurs, who have struggled this season and are down in 13th place in the Premier League table.
They were boosted by their victory at Selhurst Park after Christmas but it was another below-par performance.
Frank is honest in his assessment of that game and knows things need to improve.
“We are competitive in the games, for example, where not everything is perfect. Which I think was a big step against Crystal Palace,” said Frank, who is looking for back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since the opening two games of the season.
“I think it was a beautiful, ugly win to go away to a very difficult wake-up and win 1-0.
“It's definitely a quality you need to have if you want to achieve something big.
“Then, of course, the next bit is also we need to be better on the ball. For example, that was not the best game on the ball against Crystal Palace.
“That's one area that we're working very hard on.”
