Tottenham prospect Will Lankshear is in advanced talks over a permanent switch to Middlesbrough, according to ExpressAndStar.com.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of 2024/25 on loan at Albion in the Championship and failed to score in 11 appearances. Only four of those outings were starts for the Baggies.
His reputation had risen thanks to a productive spell with struggling Oxford in the second tier, where he scored 12 in all competitions, 11 in the league. The U’s were relegated. He also struck in a 2-1 win over Albion in February, James Morrison’s first match as caretaker.
Beaten play-off finalists Boro, managed by Kim Hellberg, asked about his availability in January, but he chose to remain at the Kassam Stadium. Southampton have been keen, with reported interest too from Wolves and from overseas at Sporting Lisbon. Boro are reported to have stolen a march in the chase.
Spurs have rejected more than one approach for Lankshear, who has made three substitute appearances for the club. A fee is yet to be agreed and personal terms still need to be finalised.
Middlesbrough are set for a windfall of more than £20 million due to a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that took former Albion academy product Morgan Rogers to Villa. Rogers is set for Chelsea for a British record £117 million.
