Although mainly an attacking midfielder, Nygren is versatile enough to operate as a striker or on both flanks. He has earned four senior caps for Sweden, scoring twice, and last season he most notably notched a hat-trick for Nordsjaelland against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the UEFA Conference League.

With Kieran Tierney’s return now official, Celtic have been linked to a host of players as transfer activity ramps up ahead of the summer window taking shape for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The left-back committed to a five-year deal last Tuesday, while Rodgers continues to prioritise bolstering attacking players with further acquisitions expected.

With Tierney confirmed and Callum Osmand alongside Nygren expected to follow soon, Celtic appear to be getting a head start on transfers, a notable shift from previous windows where signings were often delayed – making this proactive approach ahead of pre-season a welcome change.

Meanwhile, fellow Swede and former Celtic defender Johan Mjallby believes Nygren is making an excellent career choice: Benjamin Nygren can fulfil his Champions League dream at Celtic. He only needs to look at Celtic’s last Champions League campaign, which was very successful, and we saw a lot of good things from the team, especially in the away games against the likes of Atalanta and Bayern Munich, where they showed that they had matured a lot in that arena,” he said, speaking to Scottish Sun.
