Arsenal have been given a major boost in their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes following Newcastle manager Eddie Howe’s decision to quit just weeks before the start of the new Premier League season. Guimaraes is due to return to pre-season training on Friday but Howe’s departure suggests that the Newcastle captain could also be close to an exit.

While the Premier League champions are yet to launch an official bid for Guimaraes, Newcastle, who have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer, have also been linked with another exit, with left back Lewis Hall also said to be of interest to Manchester United. Hall, 21, is viewed as a long-term successor to Luke Shaw, according to reports.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, according to reports in France, but are still a considerable distance away from agreeing a fee for the French international. Barcola wants to join Liverpool, according to L’Equipe, but the European champions will demand £140m this summer and the Reds are now set to open talks with his club.

Man Utd latest on hunt for another central midfielder

Manchester United still want to sign a midfielder this summer and the choice will come down to Roma’s Manu Kone and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, according to The I Paper

After signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, Michael Carrick’s side still need reinforcements following the departure of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte suffering a long-term injury at the World Cup.

They also missed out on the signing of Elliot Anderson, who joined rivals Manchester City on a £116m deal.

Roma, though, becoming frustrated by United’s approach for their France international midfielder Manu Kone, according to Corriere dello Sport in Italy.

The same outlet reported that United had “reached an agreement in principle” with the 25-year-old, but are yet still to make a bid.

Bradley Barcola 'agrees to join Liverpool' as Reds 'open talks'

Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has agreed to join Liverpool, according to a report in the French sports daily L’Equipe.

It is undoubtedly a boost to Liverpool ahead of potentially facing competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal for the France international, but a deal remains some way off.

That’s because PSG have set a price tag of £140m on the 23-year-old, and do not want to sell - especially as Real Madrid look likely to sign RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.

As previously reported, PSG are using the Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson deals as a benchmark, while Barcola remains under contract with the European champions.

When asked about his targets this summer, Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola said a wide player was top of his list.

Now, Sky Sports add that Liverpool are set to begin talks with PSG and are set to prepare an offer. The Reds will need to negotiate PSG down from their asking price.

Chelsea open to offers for Liam Delap

Everton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Leeds are all in the mix to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea, according to various reports.

With Chelsea set to sign Danny Welbeck on a two-year deal and Joao Pedro emerging as Xabi Alonso’s first-choice in attack, Delap will be allowed to leave.

Many of the clubs involved in talks to sign Delap last summer before he joined Chelsea are back in for the 23-year-old.

Delap is currently in Australia on Chelsea’s pre-season tour but where could he end up by the start of the season?

Marcus Rashford thanks Barcelona for 'special memories' with Manchester United future uncertain

Marcus Rashford thanked Barcelona for the “special memories” and wished them well for the campaign ahead as he prepares to return to Manchester United.

The 28-year-old recently finished a fruitful season-long loan at the Nou Camp, where he scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions.

Rashford helped Barca to the La Liga crown but Hansi Flick’s side opted against making his move permanent and instead splashed the cash on signing England team-mate Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

The forward’s future remains uncertain but there is a growing feeling that the most likely outcome is him staying at Old Trafford, where former team-mate Michael Carrick is now in charge.

Rashford is due to soon link up with United after a post-World Cup break and he has thanked Barcelona for an unforgettable campaign in Spain.

“I’m very grateful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and memorable experience,” Rashford said in an Instagram post. “I’ve enjoyed every moment and will take many special memories with me.

“I wish the club and all its supporters the very best of luck and every success in the season ahead. Visca el Barça.”
