The final winter sprint is in full swing at FC Bayern, with one talent in particular in the spotlight. The Bayern youngster’s future could be decided today.
FC Bayern Munich and 1. FC Nürnberg are once again negotiating a loan deal for Javier Fernández. According to Sky, the final talks are taking place today and a decision on the 19-year-old’s transfer is expected to be made soon. Nuremberg are working towards completing the deal before the deadline to strengthen Miroslav Klose’s squad for the second half of the season.
The central midfielder is one of the biggest talents on the Bayern campus, but has hardly made more than a few appearances in the second team recently. After an injury-ridden pre-season, the Spaniard is now expected to play consistently at a higher level again in order not to lose touch with the professional game.

In Munich, a loan is primarily seen as a sporting measure. Sporting director Christoph Freund recently clearly outlined the youngster’s situation: „Javi is a very interesting player. It is very important that he stays healthy – but also that he can play soccer at a high level.“ Fernández still has a contract with the record champions until 2028.
The Spaniard moved to the Bayern campus from Atlético Madrid in 2022 and was seen early on as a prospect for higher tasks. In Nuremberg, he will now take on responsibility in professional soccer for the first time over a longer period of time. Whether this will happen is likely to be decided later today.
At the same time, FC Bayern is pushing ahead with further personnel movements in the youth sector. Several talented players are about to go out on loan or make permanent moves to gain match practice elsewhere. In Fernández’s case, a decision in the near future is already within reach.
