Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has ripped into outgoing Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella ahead of his big-money move to Real Madrid.
The 37-year-old claims Cucurella was part of the problem that troubled the Blues last season.
Cucurella has completed his move to Madrid in a deal that could total up to £52 million, including additional performance-related bonuses.
Madrid’s interest in Cucurella developed quickly, with the Spanish giants beating La Liga rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the race for his signature.
Reports claim that new Madrid manager Jose Mourinho played a major role in convincing the club to enter the race and complete the transfer.
Cucurella’s Chelsea exit comes on the back of a tumultuous campaign that saw the club finish 10th in the Premier League table.
The Spanish international shook a few tables before jumping ship, publicly criticising some of the decisions made by the Chelsea leadership.
Cutting Enzo Maresca loose at the start of the year was one of several issues raised, and his future at the club has since been a huge talking point.
Deeney believes Cucurella’s comments didn’t help the dynamics at the club and suggested that he should take more responsibility for poor performances rather than pointing fingers.
“I think there is an element with Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez, you weren’t playing good enough to talk,” Deeney said on talkSPORT.
“This new generation of players, when things go well, tell me how great I am, pat me on the back and go on social media and tell you how great they are, the fans are wonderful.
“When they lose, it’s not me, it is the manager, the owner, the board, it’s all of these different things.
“I was here a year ago for the Club World Cup and they were absolutely loving it.
“Fast forward eight months and it’s should have got rid of that manager. It’s like come on, you were part of the problem.”
Cucurella made 163 appearances for Chelsea during his four-year stay at Stamford Bridge, contributing nine goals and 13 assists.
