Youri Regeer (21) is close to replacing Devyne Rensch at Ajax, reports De Telegraaf. Georgios Vagiannidis has so far proven to be too expensive an option, which is why Ajax has switched back to their former defender.
Earlier on Monday it was announced that Devyne Rensch will definitely swap Ajax for AS Roma. The Amsterdammers will receive a maximum of six million euros.
Ajax are now busy with Rensch’s successor. First, it was announced that Regeer had the credentials, while not much later it was reported that Ajax were close to signing Vagiannidis. However, Panathinaikos wants to see eight million euros for the Greek full-back – an amount too high for Francesco Farioli’s side.
Regeer was at Ajax between 2017 and 2023, making his first-team debut in the 2022-23 season before moving to FC Twente. It is believed the Haarlem-born right-back has a buy-back clause in his Enschede contract.
