Sheffield United returned from the international break in style with a commanding 3-1 victory over Coventry City, solidifying their push for promotion as they sit top of the Championship.

Tyrese Campbell played a key role in the win, finding the back of the net to make it 2-0 to bring his tally to ten goals for the season. The forward, who has battled injury setbacks, was delighted with both the result and his personal milestone.

“Happy to score, more importantly happy to get the three points,” Campbell said to SUTV after the match. “We put a big emphasis on making sure we come back off the break right, good performance, strong performance, and making sure the intensity is there and we’re in control of the game and we did that I feel from start to finish.”

The 25-year-old’s goal against Coventry marked the first time in his career that he has reached double figures in a season, a feat he is eager to build upon.

“It’s the first time I’ve done it in my career and I’m really happy, it’s been an aim. But now I’ve got ten, I want 15, 20. Hopefully, I can keep going and keep scoring and more importantly, we reach our goal at the end of the season.”

The striker has flourished since joining the Blades, crediting the team’s togetherness and determination for his impressive form.

“It’s a team of honest, hard-working players and we all are fighting for the same thing [promotion]. We bring the best out of each other and we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and we fight for each other until the end. It’s amazing to come into a team like that and it’s been a fresh start for me and one I’ve relished. Playing games with huge importance every week is a new challenge for me but I’m loving it.”

As we head into April, Sheffield United have a two-point advantage over Leeds United and Burnley. With the pressure mounting over the top three clubs in the promotion race, Blades boss Chris Wilder has told his players to embrace it and enjoy it.

It’s incredible to think Sheffield United managed to secure Campbell’s service without having to pay a transfer fee for him in the summer. Stoke City fans were divided on him; many recognised his talents but were concerned over his fitness.

Whilst he’s had a couple of niggling injuries with the Blades, he has been a standout player in his debut season. He has been extremely clinical in front of goal, averaging 0.7 non-penalty goals per 90, an unbelievable stat.

His overall game is very impactful, highlighted by these stats: 89th percentile for shot-creating actions, 90th percentile for progressive carries, 98th percentile for touches in the attacking penalty area, and 89th percentile in progressive passes received.

Campbell also took a moment to praise his teammate Rhian Brewster, who has battled through injuries and criticism to find form, netting goals in back-to-back, for the first time since his Swansea City loan spell back in 2020.

“I’m buzzing for him. I know how it is to go through a tough time in football, injuries, people saying stuff about you in the media. It’s always going to come with injuries, but I’m just so happy for him. He’s an unreal guy, everyone loves him at the club, one of my closest people. It’s really nice for him to be scoring and I just hope he can continue it.”
