UEFA announces FIFA boycott, Club World Cup could be without Europeans | OneFootball

UEFA announced on Thursday a boycott of FIFA over plans to create a new commercial subsidiary. The organisation says it will not take part in intercontinental competitions while the proposals stand.

UEFA said in a statement that no UEFA national team would enter any FIFA competition while the proposals remained on the table, unless the idea is dropped entirely and binding guarantees are given.

No decision has been taken on clubs, although teams from UEFA could also stay out. That would rule Paris Saint-Germain out of the 2026 Intercontinental, and the 2029 Club World Cup, for which Flamengo have already qualified, could be without many of the world’s richest sides.

A prolonged standoff could weaken flagship tournaments. Next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil would be hit, and the 2030 Men’s World Cup could also be affected.

FIFA, led by president Gianni Infantino, plans to create Fifa Forward Enterprise, FFE, a new subsidiary under majority FIFA control to consolidate commercial operations and key competitions.

FIFA values FFE at 20 billion dollars, about R$ 102.3 billion, and expects to sell around 4.2 billion dollars, roughly R$ 21.5 billion, in minority shares to private investors.
