Our CEO Stephan Reiter, Karoline Edtstadler (Governor of Salzburg) and Bernhard Auinger (Mayor of Salzburg) today provided key details on the UEFA Super Cup, which will be contested on 12 August 2026, at 21:00 CEST in our Red Bull Arena.
The most important views and information about ticketing, events surrounding the match, and more are summarised here.

Football fans will only have a short break this year, with the World Cup shortly followed by the UEFA Super Cup. The Champions League and the Europa League winners will face each other in Salzburg. For fans, this is a unique opportunity to experience two top European clubs. Salzburg will once again present itself to visitors and a television audience of millions as one of the most beautiful and safest travel destinations in the world.
The UEFA Super Cup is a big event for the state of Salzburg because it serves three goals simultaneously: a short-term economic stimulus while aiding medium-term tourism marketing and the long-term positioning of Salzburg as an international sports and event location. Salzburg is therefore strengthening its position as a top football destination:
Many top clubs around the world are choosing Salzburg for their training camps. That's a trend we've observed increasingly, and one that pleases us. Salzburg is an excellent football location. It also significantly enhances the city's promotional value, not to mention the tourism benefits generated by such high-profile training camps in Salzburg. In the past, Leverkusen, Schalke, Liverpool, Anderlecht, RB Leipzig, and various national teams have already come here. Last year, even Ronaldo and his club Al-Nassr visited Saalfelden. The Super Cup further shores up this existing profile at the highest level.
The UEFA Super Cup is an exceptional international sporting event and a great opportunity for Salzburg to once again showcase itself as a high-performing and welcoming city. Our particular strength lies precisely in the combination of being a city of culture and sports, which we can highlight here. As a city, we will embrace our role as host city with a clear focus. We will ensure well-organised fan services, efficient transportation, and a safe environment for all visitors and residents. At the same time, it is important to us that this major event is well integrated into the daily life of the city.
A particular focus for us is ensuring that the people of Salzburg also directly benefit from this event. The UEFA Super Cup should not only be a major international event, but also create tangible social and societal benefits for the local population. People from our city can actively participate in shaping this event and become a part of it.
Since November 2025, a joint project group comprised of the City and State of Salzburg, SalzburgerLand Tourism, the Salzburg Football Association (SVV), and employees of FC Red Bull Salzburg has been working intensively with UEFA to create a perfectly organised matchday and an unforgettable overall experience, showcasing our region in the best possible light. We are looking forward to this major event in top-level European sport, which is a significant highlight not only for us as a club, but also for our beautiful city and the entire region.

The UEFA Super Cup is an annual match between the reigning winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. It was created by Dutch journalist Anton Witkamp to definitively determine the best club team in Europe. The winners of the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) have always participated, facing either the winners of the European Cup Winners' Cup (1973–1999) or the UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League) (from 2000 onwards).
Possible 2026 finalists
The potential finalists at this time at the present time are Arsenal London, Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, FC Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain (from the UEFA Champions League) and Aston Villa, SC Braga, Real Betis, FC Bologna, Celta Vigo, SC Freiburg, Nottingham Forest and FC Porto (from the UEFA Europa League).
The unique logo was developed in collaboration with UEFA and puts Salzburg, the host city, right at the forefront. Hohensalzburg Fortress, seen from the distinctive perspective of the Bürgermeisterloch, serves as inspiration. Clean lines and dynamic design combine cultural heritage with innovative spirit. Colourful accents meanwhile convey the passion for football and underscore the UEFA Super Cup as a European highlight.
Details regarding ticket sales for the 2026 Super Cup are expected to be announced by UEFA at the end of May. A specific date for the start of ticket sales has not yet been determined.
A fan festival for the general public will be held in the heart of Salzburg's Old Town, on Residenzplatz. Visitors can expect a diverse programme with football, cultural and entertainment elements, UEFA partner events and trophy displays. The fan festival will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
In addition, two central fan meeting points will be organized for supporters of the two finalists on the final day, August 12, 2026. Kapitelplatz and Volksgarten will serve as gathering points from which fans can proceed in an organised manner to the Red Bull Arena and experience an international tournament atmosphere even before the match.
Ahead of the UEFA Super Cup, a trophy experience will take place at several locations in Salzburg from July 29 to August 5. This will present the official trophies of the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup. The trophy experience brings the international character of the competition to the public in an early and visible way, creating lasting impressions and memorable experiences centered around the three iconic trophies.
The UEFA Super Cup offers the people of Salzburg the opportunity to actively participate: Interested individuals can now apply to UEFA as volunteers and directly contribute to the organization of this major international event. This will make the Super Cup not just an event in Salzburg, but an event with Salzburg. You can find more information here:
