Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique will be on the touchline for Wednesday’s Super Cup clash against Tottenham, despite slapping Chelsea forward Joao Pedro after the Club World Cup final.

Enrique was involved in an altercation with Pedro after last month’s Club World Cup final in New York, which Chelsea won 3-0.

The PSG boss appeared to slap Pedro, who fell to the floor, with players from both sides intervening to diffuse the situation.

“At the end of the match, there was a situation that was completely avoidable for everyone,” Enrique said after the match in July. “My intention, as always, was to try to separate the players so that it didn’t escalate.

“It was definitely avoidable; there was a lot of pressure. There were some problematic things coming from a lot of people. It’s not the best way to attract attention.”

FIFA was reportedly set to launch an investigation into Enrique after the incident, but the Spanish manager is not suspended for his side’s UEFA Super Cup outing against Tottenham in Italy this week.

Enrique will therefore be in the dugout and on the touchline for the game as Les Parisiens look to win the competition for the first time in their history.

It means PSG midfielder Joao Neves is the only player from either side suspended for this match, after he was sent off in the Club World Cup final for pulling the hair of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella.

The Portuguese was handed a two-match suspension for the incident, with the first of those absences set to be on Wednesday.
