Speaking on Sport1’s DOPA programme (via @iMiaSanMia), Uli Hoeneß has spoken about Bayern Munich’s transfer window.
This summer, Bayern have attempted to make several transfers, including Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade, but failed with both of those targets. Instead, they ended up with Nicolas Jackson and Luiz Diaz.
On Bayern’s summer window, Hoeneß said:
“We’re very satisfied at FC Bayern. We are the real winners of the summer transfer window. We have a strong team and didn’t need to strengthen it much. Of course, we would have liked to have Florian Wirtz, but we’d never have bought him for €150m. We offered €55 million for Nick Woltemade, while Stuttgart wanted €75 million. In the end he went to Nottingham [he meant Newcastle] for €90m. What Newcastle are doing has nothing to do with football. It’s like Monopoly these days”
However, despite this, Hoeneß added:
“We must not forget that there’s still a transfer window in January. We would have enough money for that. We’re also getting 3 ‘new signings’ for free in November with Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Itō. There’s also the young players who have to play”
Jamal Musiala is set to return from his injury later this year, while Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito are working their way back to full fitness after picking up injuries that prematurely ended their seasons last year.
In the opening two games of the season, Bayern’s attack has been their best asset with new signing Diaz combining well with Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry. This has seen them score nine goals in the two games; however, their defence has become a problem as they nearly through away a three-goal lead against Augsburg just before the international break.
