According to Superdeporte, back-to-back league wins have eased nerves inside Valencia’s dressing room. The 3-2 defeat of Alavés at Mestalla left Carlos Corberán’s side on 32 points, seven clear of relegation.

On the pitch, Umar Sadiq set up Javi Guerra for the hosts’ first goal, then Hugo Duro completed the comeback. The forward later addressed the media after the final whistle.

Duro said he has been featuring less, fairly so, and hailed Sadiq as outstanding with and without the ball. He called it Sadiq’s moment and joked that he did not know when his team-mate would stop resembling Pelé, adding he would stay ready to help.

Sadiq answered in kind on Instagram, posting an edit of himself styled as Pelé with the caption “Don Hugo Duro”.

With no alternative at centre-forward, Duro began the season as Valencia’s starting number nine and has delivered important goals. He remains the club’s top scorer this term.

Sadiq arrived in January, a profile that suits Corberán, increasing competition up front. Since then Duro’s minutes have dipped, but the added rivalry is aiding the team’s attacking output.
