Unai Emery has cautioned that Aston Villa have not sealed a Champions League place yet, despite Sunday’s 4-3 win over Sunderland leaving them needing six points from their final five Premier League matches to guarantee a return.
Tammy Abraham came off the bench to strike in stoppage time, then said: “We’re doing so well but there’s still hurdles to get past. With the confidence and belief we have among each other, we should get the job done.” He told Villa TV.
Emery insists the league remains the priority, with Villa heading to Fulham on Saturday.
A Europa League semi-final against Nottingham Forest is approaching as they aim to end the club’s 30-year trophy drought, and he feels the weekend win can strengthen belief for Europe.
He added that while Villa can feel better and hold some advantage over rivals, there are still matches to play. Securing a top-five finish would deliver Champions League through the league, which remains the focus.
