Unai Gómez ‘to finalise’ Udinense move in Italy | OneFootball

Unai Gómez is close to completing a move to Udinense after travelling to Italy for medical checks.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Athletic midfielder was seen at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome on Monday morning, where he is understood to have undergone his medical ahead of signing.

The move would be worth at least 4.5 million euros to Athletic, potentially reaching 6 million if conditions are met.

Athletic’s midfield is heavily stocked, featuring Oihan Sancet, Beñat Prados, Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, Mikel Vesga, Rego, Mikel Jauregizar, Gerenabarrena and the highly regarded Peio Canales. Not everyone can be accommodated and Gómez appears to have slipped down the pecking order.

Gómez has made 117 senior appearances since his August 2023 debut, lifting the Copa del Rey. He played 33 times in 2023/24, with two Liga goals, then 47 in 2024/25, including 13 in the Europa League, scoring twice again.

His most recent campaign brought 37 outings across Liga, Copa and the Champions League, with two more goals. Deployed as a holding midfielder, No 10, winger and even an emergency striker, he struggled to find sustained rhythm.
