Fabrizio Romano has revealed when Manchester United are expected to make a move for hot midfield target Carlos Baleba.

Baleba was heavily linked with Man United this past summer transfer window, yet Brighton decided not to part ways with the player.

Still, United have not given up on their pursuit of the player. Manager Ruben Amorim is believed to be driving United’s interest in the player, with The Peoples Person relaying that the Portuguese manager greatly appreciates Baleba’s talent.

In fact, it is believed that United could even break the British transfer record to sign the Cameroonian, with a €150 million investment on the table.

Pursuing a January deal

Clearly disappointed about missing out on his signature in the summer, United seem to be seeking a January deal.

Some encouraging signs of a move have since emerged, with Baleba reportedly seeking Brighton’s permission to pursue a January exit.

In a new video, Romano dismissed talks of a January move for Baleba, yet still made mention of a potential deal that United could strike for the rising star.

Summer deal incoming

“At the moment, Brighton insist on their position not to sell the player in the January transfer window,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel.

“For that to happen, there can only be a crazy proposal, or maybe the player asks to go, but Brighton, even in that case, don’t want to sell the player in January, so it’s going to be difficult.”

“In the summer might be different,” Romano continued, “because Brighton believe that Man United can be there.”

“Amorim was pushing a lot for Baleba in the summer transfer window,” Romano acknowledged. “Amorim saw Baleba as a perfect target for Man United in terms of intensity in the midfield, in terms of skills, in terms of potential, in terms of knowledge of the Premier League. Brighton closed the doors. For sure, a situation to watch.”

By pursuing a player with a proven Premier League track record, United appear to be following a successful blueprint, with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha already proving their worth.

Ultimately, Baleba could prove to be a massive asset for United, given his immense talent as well as the possibility of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro leaving the club in due time.
