France are among the favourites to win the 2026 World Cup after reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
Les Bleus defeated Morocco 2-0 in the quarter-finals to set up a mouthwatering clash with Spain in the last four.
While Kylian Mbappe has once again dazzled on the biggest stage, Bayern Munich duo Dayot Upamecano and Michael Olise have also been hugely impressive.
Both players enjoyed outstanding seasons for Bayern, and it comes as no surprise to see them shining at the World Cup.
The Frenchman enjoyed a sensational 2025-26 campaign for Bayern, scoring 20 goals and providing 25 assists as he helped the German champions win the Bundesliga title.
Olise is under contract at Bayern until 2029 and remains a key part of Vincent Kompany’s plans.
The Bavarian club are determined to keep the 24-year-old at the Allianz Arena for many years to come and have made it clear that he is not for sale this summer.
Olise has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, with suggestions that his situation is getting “dangerous” for Bayern.
After France’s victory over Paraguay, Upamecano hinted at Olise’s future by saying, “he’s staying, he’s staying,” with a smile on his face as he began to walk away.
Upamecano has also been outstanding for France at this World Cup, making more interceptions (12) than any other player in the tournament so far.
Christian Falk has told CFBayern Insider that Kylian Mbappe has been talking to Olise about life in Madrid and Spain, but Upamecano has helped keep the situation under control.
Falk said: “It is TRUE: Everyone can be positive about Michael Olise’s future at Bayern Munich. It’s true because we’re specifically speaking about this summer. In the next summer transfer window, we have to see what happens. I think there will be some rumours once again and pressure on this deal. But this summer, Dayot Upamecano is right: there is no chance for Olise to make a transfer in the current window.
“The club has made this clear to the player. Of course, the Frenchman is with the national team at the World Cup, and many players, like Kylian Mbappé, are working on him and talking up life in Real Madrid (and the weather in Spain!). But we’re happy we have Dayot Upamecano, who has some control over the situation and can say, Stop it now – he’s a Bayern Munich player, and I need him next season!”
Bayern fans will hope Olise and Upamecano remain fit for the rest of the World Cup and help France lift the trophy, which would only enhance their reputations ahead of the new season.
