Despite only being three games into the season, Coventry City 7-1 Queens Park Rangers will arguably be up there as one of the more shocking Championship results in 2025/26.

The Sky Blues - buoyed by the announcement earlier that day that the purchase of the CBS Arena was complete - celebrated in style, becoming the 10th side to score seven in a single Championship game.

The recipients of such a dominating scoreline were Queens Park Rangers, who have endured a torrid time so far under Julien Stephan, picking up just one point all season and being dumped out of the EFL Cup by an out-of-form Plymouth Argyle.

QPR are in a transition period; however, having welcomed a whole host of new players alongside their new manager, and Football League World's Hoops' fan pundit, Louis Moir, feels that this is very much an unfortunate part of the teething process.

QPR "disgrace" laid bare following Coventry City humiliation

Nevertheless, he condemned the performance, and knows that such an embarrassment cannot happen again.

"I think there's no excusing that result at Coventry, despite the injuries we have and the new players not being fully fit to start games, such as Kwame Poku," Moir told FLW.

Julien Stephan has had to shuffle his deck multiple times already this season, having lost Poku to injury in the first game of the season.

Captain Jimmy Dunne has only been fit for the 7-1 defeat, Jonathan Varane has started just once this season, whilst star summer arrival Richard Kone is yet to start a game for the club following his move from Wycombe Wanderers.

"Obviously, there's no excusing what happened at Coventry, though, because it was a disgrace," Moir added. "And fair play to those who walked out at half-time, rightly so."

"But, we are still so, so early into the season - the window's not shut, we've been signing more players, we will get people back fit, and there's still a new manager working things out.

"I'm still confident that there is a lot to be excited about this season, I truly believe it."

Moir believes that the 7-1 defeat against Coventry was an eye-opener almost to those few QPR fans who were maybe starting to get carried away due to their impressive dealings this transfer window.

"It will take time to gel, and maybe that's what's needed to happen to show that things aren't going to work straight away, and it's going to be a bit of a process, where it will take longer than maybe people would have hoped for," Louis claimed.

"Regardless, though, it's a tough result to take, and no team should be losing 7-1 in a competitive game to a team in the same league."

Consistency will be the key for QPR with Championship play-offs the end goal

Moir believes that once the transfer window is over at the beginning of next month, Julien Stephan will have a better idea of his ideal starting eleven, given the players he will have at the club.

The R's have brought in Rhys Norrington-Davies and re-signed both Isaac Hayden and Koki Saito in the time since the 7-1 loss at the CBS Arena, whilst also allowing Zan Celar to leave on loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

"For me, it's just getting the transfer window done and dusted, getting players signed, letting those who may need to leave out of the door, and getting people fit, and once things start to gel, hopefully we'll start seeing better results and a more consistent QPR side," Moir said.

"Already we've had to chop and change, and we need to see more consistency and see what will be the main starting eleven for most games, which is something we haven't seen for a long time, given all the injuries we've had."

"I'm not concerned.

"I think we've still got a lot to be excited about, a good squad when everyone's fit, and hopefully we will just tighten up a bit at the back and move forward.
