In a recent interview, journalist Graeme Bailey offered an update on Manchester United and their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. Bailey said,

“What I am hearing is they want someone who can really help them defensively.

“In an ideal world they’d just sign Carlos Baleba. They absolutely love his game. Yes, he didn’t have his best season, but they still believe he’d be an outstanding fit for Manchester United.

“United believe Baleba is worth somewhere around the £50m mark, especially after what they considered an inconsistent campaign. Brighton couldn’t disagree more.

“Even before Elliot Anderson became the most expensive British player ever (now surpassed by Morgan Rogers), Brighton were talking about figures well north of £75m and closer to £100m. That immediately puts him outside United’s thinking.”

Baleba’s Decent Form In The Premier League

Baleba enjoyed a solid campaign at the English club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 22-year-old made 35 appearances for the Seagulls last season but failed to score or create a goal for them in various competitions.

The Cameroonian talent is currently among the best holding midfielders in the Premier League. Therefore, it is no surprise that Man United are eager to get a deal over the line for him this off-season.

His current contract at the American Express Community Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for the Red Devils to sign him on the cheap later this year.

What Should Manchester United Boss Michael Carrick Do With Regards To Baleba?

Baleba is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate distributor of the ball.

The Cameroonian talent is primarily a holding midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Man United.

Baleba would add more bite and steel to Michael Carrick’s midfield. He is capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford next season.

At 22, Baleba has got the ceiling to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, Carrick should focus on going all out to acquire his services in this transfer window.
