València agrees Nou Mestalla use and advances Benicalap sports centre project | OneFootball

València City Council and Valencia CF have agreed a cooperation pact that grants the city free use of Nou Mestalla for major events and advances the Benicalap sports centre.

According to Superdeporte, the Junta de Gobierno approved the agreement on Thursday morning, regulating Nou Mestalla’s use and enabling municipal steps on the sports complex. It sets a stable framework for institutional collaboration and formalises Valencia CF’s obligations. The term is four years, extendable by a further four.

The city will be able to stage top-tier international athletics, and UEFA or FIFA national-team football in both women’s and men’s competitions, such as the Nations League, European Championships and World Cups, including the possibility of hosting FIFA 2030 World Cup matches.

It also covers finals of European club competitions organised by UEFA, currently the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, plus finals of Spain’s domestic cups, the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina.

For Benicalap, the project will be sent out to begin procurement. The facility, on the street next to Dr Nicasio Benlloch, will feature two halls with capacities of 176 and 139 for gymnastics, futsal and similar sports.

A heated pool area will include a beach zone and two pools, the main 25x10 metres for lane swimming and a 10x6 pool for small supervised groups and mother-and-baby sessions. Changing and technical areas are included.

Outside, there will be open-air courts, landscaped areas and an exhibition park for remains of the old Molino de la Marquesa with independent access. The updated project cost is 11,270,045.06 euros, VAT included.
