Umar Sadiq is in València to finalise his return to Valencia. The striker travelled by road from San Sebastián, stopping in Madrid, after saying his goodbyes at Real Sociedad’s Zubieta base.
According to Superdeporte, his first stop was Paterna for initial tests. He is due to complete his medical on Thursday morning then sign until 30 June 2028. The plan is for him to train with the group and be available to Carlos Corberán for Saturday’s LaLiga game against Elche at Mestalla, which closes the first half of the season.
Late in the evening he expressed his delight at returning and addressed fans with the club’s rallying cry. He is the first winter signing, with a fee above 3 million euros plus add-ons agreed with Real Sociedad.
The move accelerated after Valencia fell into the relegation places following a 4-1 defeat at Celta in Balaídos, a result that intensified unrest. In a crisis meeting with CEO of football Ron Gourlay, Corberán pushed for a bigger offer and made Sadiq his sole target. Approval for the numbers was sought from Singapore and the player’s wish to return helped Real Sociedad give the green light without dragging out the window.
Before the Celta loss, Corberán had said the squad needed reinforcements while insisting the current group should produce better results. Sadiq returns on a permanent deal after proving pivotal in last season’s survival, scoring six times, five in LaLiga and one in the Copa del Rey, with his league goals worth six points. He started 11 matches and forged a quick bond with Mestalla.
