Valencia extend Guido Rodríguez to 2028 as Enzo Barrenechea option cools | OneFootball

Valencia have extended Guido Rodríguez on a two-year contract to June 2028, cooling talk of a move for Benfica midfielder Enzo Barrenechea.

According to Glorioso 1904, the renewal takes Valencia out of the running for the Argentine this summer.

The Argentina midfielder returned to Spanish football in the 2025/26 winter window. Since arriving he has played 17 competitive matches and scored four goals, underlining his impact in midfield. He is 32 and has represented River Plate, Defensa y Justicia, Club Tijuana, Club América, Real Betis, West Ham and Valencia.

For the national team he has 30 caps and one goal, and is part of the generation that won two Copas América, a World Cup and a Finalissima.

Benfica are open to negotiating Barrenechea, as Marco Silva does not view him among his main options for next season. Valencia had been a possible destination, given the player’s previous loan spell there.

With Rodríguez staying at Mestalla, that route weakens and one suitor drops away. Barrenechea has made 43 appearances and scored two goals for Benfica after joining from Aston Villa for about €15 million.
