Valencia fear a Barcelona push for Javi Guerra as the Catalans consider their next steps in the market. According to AS, an approach could arrive in the coming days.

They head into August with only three signings, plus Guido, and several positions unresolved, including right-back, a back-up goalkeeper and a winger. Gourlay has plenty to address, and the squad is a long way from the near-complete groups that once contested the Trofeo Naranja by this stage, with the game due next Saturday.

Both teams are currently based at St George’s Park in England, and the midfielder has been seen greeting Barcelona players he knows from Spain duty.

Barcelona could prepare an offer if they abandon a move for Julián Alvarez. Should a forward arrive for a smaller outlay, spare budget could be directed towards Guerra.

Valencia remain calm because from tomorrow his release clause rises from 40 to 60 million euros. It appears unlikely Barcelona, or any club, will reach that figure, but the club feel fully protected.

Both Valencia and the player have said he will stay this year at Mestalla, the last of its existence. Even so, with money on the table, Peter Lim in Singapore could yet decide otherwise.
