Valencia’s hopes of keeping hold of midfield star Guido Rodriguez have this week been complicated by La Liga rivals Villarreal.

This comes amid the understanding that the Yellow Submarine are expressing a keen interest in bringing the Argentine to Castellón.

Guido for his part secured a move back to Spain this past January. After an underwhelming stint in the Premier League with West Ham United, the 32-year-old was snapped up by the aforementioned Valencia in a low-cost deal.

Guido went on to play a starring role for Los Che across the 2nd half of the campaign, notching four goals in 16 league appearances.

The issue for his current employers, however, comes in the form of Guido’s contract terms. The midfielder only committed to a deal at Mestalla through the summer, meaning he will soon be available as a free agent.

And amid the ongoing efforts of the Valencia brass to find a renewal agreement, two rival suitors have entered the fray.

As per a report from market insider Ekrem Konur:

‘Olympiakos and Villarreal are interested in Valencia’s 32‑year‑old Argentine midfielder Guido Rodríguez. Contract runs until 2026, market value €5M, but high wages make a move difficult.’
