According to a report from L’Équipe, Valentín Barco (21) is angry with RC Strasbourg Alsace because he believes he was not adequately warned that he was at risk of a suspension.
After receiving a red card during the 1-0 loss to RC Lens on the 22nd of November, Barco received a one-match suspension and a one-match suspended sentence; he was also not allowed to pick up any further yellow cards in the next ten matches. Barco reportedly believes that this latter detail was not explained to him.
During the derby victory against FC Metz on the 18th of January, Barco picked up a yellow card for disputing the decision of the referee. Something he likely would not have done if he were fully aware that he ran the risk of receiving a further suspension.
A source close to the player allegedly told L’Équipe, “He wasn’t warned. It’s unprofessional of the club, and especially of Kader Mangane [the sporting coordinator]. It’s his job! It’s completely unacceptable.” However, the club believe that the information was told to the player, but that it was likely misunderstood.
This mix-up means that Strasbourg will be without Barco when they play Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening
