Federico Valverde scored a stunning hat-trick as Manchester City were beaten 3-0 by European rivals Real Madrid.
The Uruguayan midfielder scored three before half-time to leave Pep Guardiola’s side with a monumental task at the Etihad in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.
Valverde scored his first after rounding the onrushing Gianluigi Donnarumma and firing in from a tight angle, before adding another with a pinpoint low strike into the bottom corner.
And he capped off a memorable night with his third three minutes before half-time, showing a wonderful bit of skill to flick the ball over the head of Marc Guehi before finishing calmly.
It could have been even worse for City had Vinicius Junior converted his second-half penalty after being fouled by Donnarumma, but the goalkeeper made up for his mistake by denying the Brazilian a fourth for Real Madrid.
