Reports in England assure that Liverpool have no intention of letting Virgil van Dijk go, despite rumours of potential Milan interest from new coach Ruben Amorim.

The centre-back will turn 35 next week and his contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season.

This could in theory make him available for a cut-price fee, which intrigued Milan directors and coach Amorim.

However, The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce assures that Liverpool are not prepared to even consider offers for their captain.

The arrival of new coach Andoni Iraola has not changed the situation, and the Netherlands international will have to remain an intriguing dream only for the Rossoneri.

Van Dijk is truly a fixture at Anfield, having joined from Southampton in January 2018 for €84.65m, going on to make 374 competitive appearances for the Reds.

Instead, Milan are on the verge of securing Mario Gila from Lazio and are in talks for Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio as well.
