Vangelis Pavlidis wins December player award in Portugal, adds forward prize | OneFootball

Vangelis Pavlidis has been named Liga Portugal Betclic’s Player of the Month for December. The Benfica striker also collected the forward of the month award.

According to Glorioso 1904, the honours were decided by votes from the head coaches of every club in the top flight.

Luis Suárez of Sporting finished second with 16.24%, with Rodrigo Zalazar third on 9.40%. The Braga midfielder recently tormented Benfica in the Taça da Liga, scoring two decisive goals in their last meeting.

Across December, Benfica’s No 14 struck four times. He hit three away to Moreirense and added one at home to Famalicão, and also supplied an assist in the 2-2 draw at the Pedreira.

The 27-year-old is in outstanding form, with five goals and one assist in his last four competitive outings. That return will surely please José Mourinho.

This season Pavlidis, valued at 35 million euros, has played 32 matches for Benfica, 17 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. In 2,546 minutes he has 24 goals and three assists.
