VAR shapes matchday 20 as LaLiga race tightens

LaLiga’s title race has tightened, Barcelona’s advantage over Real Madrid now just one point after a 2-1 defeat at Real Sociedad. As reported by as.com, Real Madrid beat Levante and Atlético also won against Alavés, keeping the pressure on.
On matchday 20, VAR shaped the points in two fixtures. One was Real Sociedad against Barcelona, where the video officials intervened three times.
A Fermín finish was ruled out for an Olmo foul on Kubo. A penalty given for Lamine Yamal was cancelled for offside, and Soler’s yellow was upgraded to red for a challenge on Pedri.
The other decisive intervention came in Mallorca against Athletic, where VAR flagged two handball penalties against Vivian and Yuri, both converted by Muriqi.
Elsewhere, the first review of the day arrived in Espanyol against Girona to order a retake after Dmitrovic advanced before the kick. In Osasuna against Oviedo a possible handball was checked and not given, and at Balaídos Rayo’s Mendy was sent off on review.
