Vasco confirm Alex Teixeira's contract termination

Vasco announced this Wednesday (10) the amicable termination of the contract with Alex Teixeira. The attacking midfielder's contract was set to end in December, but by mutual agreement, it was terminated early.

“Vasco da Gama announces that, amicably and by mutual agreement, it has agreed to the contractual termination of forward Alex Teixeira. Alex Teixeira's second stint at São Januário began in 2022, during Jorge Salgado's management, but the player left the squad the following year. In 2024, he returned to Vasco at the request of Philippe Coutinho, in a move supported by then-president Pedrinho.

Despite the expectations created by his return, the player's performance fell short. Since July, Alex has not taken the field. His last match was the classic against Botafogo in the Brasileirão. Since then, he was listed in 12 games but did not leave the bench.

In total, during this new stint, Alex played 27 matches and was directly involved in only two goals — one goal and one assist in the victory over Atlético-GO, valid for the 36th round of the 2024 Brazilian Championship. The low performance and criticism from the fans weighed heavily on the decision for his departure.

The termination represents another move by the management to reduce the payroll and make room for new reinforcements, amid the delicate financial situation the club is facing.
